The stupid manipulator, err.. UMNO that is.
The cost of travelling by Gen2 CPS 1.6l for a return journey between Ipoh and Johor Bahru
Fuel: RM1.80 x 40 liter x 3 refills = RM216
Toll : RM73.80 x 2 = RM147.6
Car rental for 1 week : RM80 x 7 = 560
Total cost: RM923.60
Total travelling cost around Scotland (covering 600 miles/960km: Hull-Heysham to Isle of Man-Edinburgh-Falkirk-Stirling-Fort William-Lake Lochash-Isle of Skye-Glasgow) by Ford Focus which was also hired for 1 week.
Rental for 1 week: GBP165
Fuel : GBP0.99 x 40 liter x 3 refills = GBP118.8
Parking to Isle of Man : GBP 6
Total cost : GBP 289.8
Oops, did I forget about toll in Great Britain? Mind you that the travelling cost from Ipoh to JB does not include ‘hidden camera and unwarned speed trap’ summons plus duit kopi to Abang Polis for a fancy plate number!
Unless if you want to be UMNO/BN-yang-bodoh, don’t be foolish enough by converting the RM to sterling to see the comparison.
The UMNO/BN likes to fool people by saying that our electricity tariff is the cheapest on earth. They had also once declared that our fuel is among the cheapest at GBP0.3 or USD0.47 per liter. They even claimed that our food is cheap. Even our water is cheap by world standard (RM0.31/m3 in Penang and RM0.9/m3 in Johor considering to RM0.02/1000m3 to Singapore due to the mistake of the previous dimwitted ministers).
What these UMNO/BN-dimwitted-leaders have foolishly missed in the above "our-goods-is-the-cheapest-on-earth comparison" is that Malaysian does not earn their salary in USD or GBP, but in RM! Hence the comparison is a total bogus, not comparing like with like.
With this stupid ignorance, exacerbated by their excessive practice of the ultimate corrupted capitalism which costs the rakyat on daily basis, UMNO/BN leaders are no more than a bunch of stooges, who in the course of membodohkan rakyat, had erased the fact that Malaysian purchasing power is fucking low, that we end up having lower standard of living than our friends who parted in 1965.
p/s: ‘Singapore pon ada toll what…?’ Again don’t be silly. It is a congestion charge, not a toll paid to the corrupted capitalist. And compared to KL, their public transporation is of world class!

I wouldn’t mind living and working under the duress of economic inflation. But certainly have no intention of letting what are tantamount to unethical economic practices, approved by the UMNOists, be the policy of this nation!

Entah la. Pada pendapat ko, adilkah sistem tol?
Kalau tol tu free, macam mana dengan orang yang bayar cukai kat kedah, kelantan etc, tapi tak pernah guna tol pun?
Macam mana pula warga singapura nanti guna highway macam orang gila?
Comment by zacharias — August 18, 2009 @ 4:08 am
That is the point where most people get it wrong. We are so used to the thinking of “nice road should be tolled” that we don’t believe in the responsibility of the government to provide it. There shouldn’t be any private highways at all. What we should have is federal road, and this road, regardless of how many lanes it has or how crap it is, should not be feudalised by capitalists.
What the government should have done is to improve the nation’s public transportation (i.e. local bus and train networks, extensive underground coverage etc) as an alternative so people wouldn’t rely too much on private cars, hence reducing congestion on the road and lower demand for tip-top highways. It comes to me at no surprise to see highly-paid bankers in their Armani tailored suit traveling between their homes and Canary Wharf using London tube when the tube is efficient. And in Malaysia, it is pretty bizarre to see a clerk driving a Kancil to work, which cost her more than RM500/month to maintain, when the salary is only RM1300.
Even with no free highway, people are already paying tax and the question of where the monies go remain unsolved, of which obviously does not trickle down to the society, be it those in KL or Kedah or even Kelantan. And the best part is, the government is paying billions of RM of subsidy annually to the toll operators, and mind you that this will increase as time goes by. And most of the operators are showing perpetual abnormal profit!
And let me make a disclaimer that this article is not mainly on toll issue, IPP, privatisation or about KL people. It is about Malaysian (that’s u, me, my dad in Kedah, KLite, those in Borneo and the rest of us), having a low purchasing power, exacerbated by ever increasing cost of life, due to the corrupted capitalism ideology and leadership malpractice.
On the Singaporean using highway like mad, it really is not a question of the cost of using the highway. If they can behave in their country, why do they drive like crazy in Malaysia? Believe me, the abang police would love the RM50 duit kopi more than slapping them with RM300 on the spot cash summon.

Furthermore, foreigners using national roads is not the crux of the problem at hand. We should not always perceive Singaporeans as somehow exercising extra-territoriality over us everytime we think about our roads, or anything for that matter. Had our political leadership display more intellect (which unsurprisingly is not most of the time), Singaporeans going crazy on our roads would be a matter of law, not a fallback excuse for our current predicament.
The highway and transportation problem is squarely on the ludicrous and feeble politicians. In the end, the civil service is going to be demoralised and vacillated enough to be ineffective until a more thorough reform by whatever incoming new political force could override this inertia.
And that if the Perak-style subterfuge BNists are capable of do not get in the way.

well, I tend to disagree here. I believe, we have the room to agree to disagree.
1) I don’t believe in tax. Apart from the mandatory 2.5% of zakat, that is very minimal, I do not see why we should be paying our tax.
2) If we don’t pay all those ridiculous tax, I believe the toll system is fair, considering only those who use have to pay. I say fair, because those who build the highway invested with their capital.
3) Having said so, of course I disagree with the toll rate.
4) We should charge foreign cars entering our country, like singapore does to malaysian cars. Sadly, everytime there is discussion amongst malaysian and singaporean leaders, it seems they always walk away with a bigger piece of the cake.
Again, I still believe that we should abolish tax, but maintain a minimum national insurance for healthcare.

Yes we do have many rooms to disagree.
I couldn’t agree with you more on point 4. With regard to Malaysia and Singapore inter-relationship, I believe retaliation and quid pro quo are just not in Malaysia leaders’ dictionary.
In layman’s term, I guess they have balls with the size of XXS.
Please pardon me for the pun!

You really think it is because of the balls?
Let’s think how much money thailand can make if they cut segenting kra and make a canal over there… How much that would jeopardize singapore economy?
I tend to think that those people (thai leaders, malaysian leaders) got paid off by the singapore government.. so the small piece of cake it seems..

I don’t know, Mar. I couldn’t agree more but honestly I sense much hate in the entry till made me read Edinburgh-Falkirk-Stirling as Edinburgh-Fuck-Stirling. Seriously. As Mus said, you could have tone it down a bit bro. A wife would be just fine to help for that purpose i guess. Ahaks. No offence bro,
just some stupid comment of your old concerned friend.

No comment is silly bru.
But time is running out.
Hate in its rightful way is wajib. If u can change it with ur hand, it would reflect the best state of imaan. Preventing it by talking will do just fine. But merely hating it from the bottom of heart is the weakest form of imaan.
And I’m not sure what state of imaan we would have, if we do not have any feeling of hate at all for the munkars and lies that happen.
Please read Raja Petra on this. http://mt.m2day.org/2008/content/view/25780/84/
And on the wife bit, of late, it’s very difficult to find a wife who understand the meaning of fear, hunger, losing life and fruits. What most modern ladies need is a perpetual clingy, 24hrs calls and texts.
Can we just go back to the days when marriage is just a game of qadha dan qadar?
