Before accepting an invitation of a friend of mine to Pasir Tumboh pondok, I frequently pondered on the contribution that pondok would make on me since the duration of my study there is absurdly short.
And this dear friend of mine assured me that although I may not be able to learn much during this short visit, it is more than enough if I can remember even one little piece of knowledge and hikmah, which I hold on to it forever.
And I think, I have got that particular little ‘piece’, which I am now still in the process of training myself.
It is a bit from kitab al-Hikam, by Imam Abu Ata’illah as-Sakandari,
He recorded that Imam Abu Abbas al-Mursi said,
A person who do good deeds for the purpose of showing off, he will become the servant of his deeds..
A person who do good deeds in secret in the intention of not letting people know, he will become the servant of his secretness,
And a servant of Allah is the one who is indifferent in both….(yang bersamaan dalam keduanya)
